As the general public now understands, where there is inflammation, there is a situation of degrading health, whether someone is aware of symptoms or not. In cases where people have a diagnosis of chronic illness, there is always inflammation. And so the nutrition and lifestyle prescriptions for chronic health and for inflammation are the same.
Remove inflammatory foods
In an effort to bring the inflammation down, it is important for those with chronic health and inflammation to remove inflammatory foods for a period of time (and some items forever). These include:
High fructose corn syrup
Grains, especially flours
Nightshade vegetables (for some)
Auto-immune diseases or cross reactivity
In some cases of auto-immune disease or cross reactivity, it can also be necessary to remove:
Food sensitivities testing is sometimes necessary
Depending on symptomology, it can also sometimes be important to do a food sensitivities test, offered through our office, to remove specific foods causing a reaction. The results of these tests are often surprising, with items such as mushrooms or broccoli showing as a sensitivity. The goal of removing the foods for a while is to allow the immune system to calm down. Once that happens, over the following months to one year, the foods can be slowly added back in.
