If you’re busy, protein powders can often come in handy. At any time of day, you can quickly whip up a shake and allow your body to be nourished and satisfied. A quality protein drink made from whole food ingredients can benefit your health in a number of ways.
Why Protein Powders?
Protein Powders can:
- Balance hormones
- Assist in weight loss
- Support detoxification and digestion
- Boost your immune system
- And even support pregnancy.
Protein is also the key nutrient that helps you get ageless, glowing skin and lean, toned muscles.
What is protein?
Without getting too scientific, protein is a molecule made from chemicals called amino acids. Our bodies need these amino acids to function properly – they carry oxygen through the blood, boost the immune system and, of course, build muscle. When it comes to ingredients, less is better. Just look for mixes which have the least and cleanest ingredients. If you are vegan, plant-based powders are the best choice of course. Look for hemp, brown rice, pea, chia seeds, flax seeds, and other healthy plant-based ingredients. If you are not vegetarian or vegan, you can go with grass-fed bone broth and collagen-based protein shakes. They are not only a great source of protein, but also good for your gut health, joints and skin.
Is plant-based protein inferior to animal-based protein? Why/why not?
Plant-based protein isn’t inferior, as long as you choose one that has a complete amino acid profile and is not loaded with fillers, or the other unhealthy ingredients listed above. As we already mentioned above, the fewer ingredients the better!
Evaluate the ingredient quality and how it’s made. Like most manufactured foods, protein powders are not created equal. It’s important that the protein you use is un-denatured and free from unhealthy chemicals and additives.
Just a Suggestion:
If you are trying to keep a healthy diet, sometimes hanging out with friends becomes hard because you cannot eat at the same places. Throw a smoothie party. You can get healthy clean ingredients and ask your guests to mix their own drinks. It’s healthy and fun. If you need help Sofie can help you with shopping, preparation, and fun ideas.
