Detoxification – it seems to be a constant buzzword throughout the alternative health care world yet there is still confusion about what it truly means to detoxify the body. We are surrounded by toxins in the air we breathe, water we drink, the body care products we use on our skin, and the unhealthy foods we consume.
When heavy metals, additives, preservatives and other chemicals accumulate in our tissues we may become inflamed, fatigued, have trouble losing weight, experience cognitive issues, and experience immune system imbalances. This is when detoxification become critically important.
How do we actually detoxify Our Bodies?
The liver might do a lot of the heavy lifting when it comes to detoxification, but there are many other key players involved in cleansing our body such as the kidney, lungs, colon, skin, lymph, and circulatory system. All of these important organs and systems work together to help to neutralize and eliminate toxins from the body through the urine, breath, sweat, and stool.
At Tavicare, the first thing we focus on is healing the gastrointestinal system in order to support proper cleansing and elimination. We then walk our patients through individualized programs that help support detoxification which may include some of the following:
• Specialized dietary protocol to lower inflammation and support liver function
• IV glutathione treatments
• Herbs/nutritional supplements that support the liver, kidneys, lungs, and lymph system
• Binding agents (to pull toxins from the body, especially during detox of heavy metals or mold toxins or other biotoxins)
• Self-care instructions for detoxification techniques to do at home: Dry skin brushing, far-infrared sauna visits, coffee enemas, Epsom salt baths, castor oil packs, rebounder exercise, coffee enemas, deep breathing techniques, etc.
When Should we do a Detox?
At Tavicare, we believe you should be supporting your body’s ability to detox each and every day by incorporating some of the self-care techniques listed above into your daily routine. But if the body is truly overwhelmed with toxins we will need to dive deeper into a detoxification protocol – one of which involves the use of glutathione.
Glutathione – Your Master Antioxidant & Detoxifier
Glutathione is an antioxidant compound that is naturally produced within our own bodies. It helps protect cell membranes, recycles other antioxidants, and supports detoxification processes within the liver.
Glutathione contains a sulfur-containing amino acid called cysteine. So by eating sulfur-rich foods (eggs, onions, garlic, broccoli, cabbage and other cruciferous vegetables) we can naturally boost our body’s ability to make glutathione.
However, our glutathione production may be impaired if we are overloaded with too many toxins, stress, mold exposure, or other illness. This is where supplementing with glutathione or taking IV infusions can be extremely useful to help our body to detoxify naturally and efficiently to get back to a state of vibrant health.
